DUCKS SWIM TEAM PRACTICE SCHEDULES & FEES

The Lake Geneva YMCA Ducks Swim Team offers training and practice groups for beginners to advanced-level high school and college-age competitive swimmers, ages 5-18+. Our age-specific training and expert technique instruction challenge and develop each athlete to swim like a champion and be their personal best. 2024 - 2025 Short Course Practice Schedule, Fees, and Pool Locations 

YMCA Membership is required for all Ducks swimmers.  

If a swimmer decides not to continue swimming during any season, the parents must remember two details: 
1)  Email Glenn Biller at glenn.biller@glymca.org so he can remove the swimmer from the swim group and stop any additional payments.
2)  Stop at the YMCA Front Desk to terminate the YMCA membership in writing or fill out the online change form
here.

DUCKS SWIMMING TRAINING GROUPS

Spotted Ducks |Beginning-Level Swimmers

The objective of this swim team group is to teach the fundamentals and mechanics of each stroke.

Swimmers entering the swim team must be able to swim:

25 yards free, no stopping, with rhythmic breathing
25 yards backstroke, no stopping, not dragging legs
25 yards flutter kick on back and front with board
Dive from the side of the pool, no feet entry

Equipment Needed
Competitive Practice Suit
Kickboard (provided by YMCA)
Fins (provided by YMCA)
Racing goggles

Swimmers should be able to endure an hour-long practice. This group provides a fun atmosphere and introduces swimmers to the competition when ready.


Lake Ducks 

This swim team group is for our experienced competitors who are ready for a more serious level of training and competition. The objectives of this group are to develop stroke mastery, further build endurance, establish goals and training habits to be successful at end-of-season competitions, and prepare to move to the next level of training and competition.

Lake Ducks swimmers entering the swim team must be able to swim:
Freestyle: is able to breathe to both sides smoothly 50 yards with proper turn
Understand circle swimming 
Streamline push off
50 yards backstroke with proper turn
Legal breaststroke kick 25 yards
Legal butterfly kick 25 yards
Proper competitive start off the block

Racing Goggles
Fins (provided by YMCA)
Kickboard (provided by YMCA)
Finger Paddles (Provided by YMCA)

Swimmers should be committed to attending at least four or five practices each week and regularly compete in scheduled meets throughout the season. 
 

Wood Ducks 

This swim team group is for our experienced competitors who are ready for a more serious level of training and competition. The objectives of this group are to develop stroke mastery, further build endurance, establish goals and training habits to be successful at end-of-season competitions, and prepare to move to the next level of training and competition.

Wood Duck swimmers entering the swim team must be able to swim:

6 x 50 Free 1:15 with 2 underwater butterfly kicks on walls and proper turn
6 x 50 Back 1:20 with 2 underwater butterfly kicks on the walls and proper turn
6 x 50 Breast 1:30 with legal pullouts and turns
8 x 25 Butterfly legal:45
1 x 100 Legal IM
10 x 50 Flutter kick 1:15
Understanding intervals and reading the clock both digital and regular pace clock.

Although the YMCA does provide fins and a kickboard, it could be beneficial to start thinking about an individual equipment bag with all of the above for your swimmer.

Swimmers should be committed to attending at least four or five practices each week and regularly compete in scheduled meets throughout the season. 


Mallard Ducks

This swim team group is for late middle school-age and high school varsity-level swimmers who are ready and willing to train for elite-level competitions. This group focuses on race preparation, goal setting, aerobic, anaerobic, and specific stroke training, race strategy, pace work, and continued technique and mechanics work on strokes, starts, and turns. Swimmers in this group should be committed to attending 2-hour practices daily and attending as many weekend meets as possible throughout the season. 

Mallard Duck swimmers entering the swim team must be able to swim:
10 x 50 flutter kick 1:00
6 x 100 Free 1:30
6 x 100 Back 1:40
6 x 100 Breast 1:45
6 x 50 Fly 1:00
6 x 100 IM 2:00

Multiple Competitive Practice Suits
2 Pairs of Racing Goggles
Fins (provided by YMCA)
Kickboard (provided by YMCA)
Paddles (Provided by YMCA)
Pull Buoy
Snorkel

All swimmers in Group 3 should have their equipment bag with the above equipment.  All bags can be stored at the YMCA.

Swimmers should be committed to attending at least four or five practices each week and regularly compete in scheduled meets throughout the season. 
 

LAKE GENEVA MASTER'S SWIMMING

Master's Adult Swim Team: Ages 18+
This Lake Geneva swim club is for anyone 18 years of age or older who would like to continue swimming with a team. Practices are 90 minutes long and are at a level that provides a good workout for those who would like to stay in shape, and it also helps provide training for those in Masters Swimming events, Triathlon events, and Open Water swims. This group is hardworking and practices are in a welcoming atmosphere. CLICK FOR MORE INFO
